Survival Phrases lesson 26, Riding The Train in India Part 2.
In the previous lesson, we covered how to get on the train. In India, riding the train is one of the best ways to enjoy your trip and visit as many places as possible, not only at the local level, but also for long distance destinations! In fact, traveling by train can be one more way to see all the wonderful things India can offer!
You can ask for the ticket for the train at the ticket office, and we can accomplish this by asking ke liye ek tikat... and then add your destination at the beginning. Now of course, we need a destination, so let's use the wonderful city of Mumbai. So how do you ask for a ticket to Mumbai?
"One ticket to Mumbai" in Hindi is mumbai ke liye ek tikat.
mumbai ke liye ek tikat
Let’s break it down by syllable: mumbai ke liye ek tikat.
mumbai ke liye ek tikat
This sentence is made up of mumbai that is the name of the destination, followed by ke liye or "for" and finally, ek tikat or "a ticket."
Let’s break down these words and hear the whole sentence one more time: mumbai ke liye ek tikat.
mumbai ke liye ek tikat
Now, what if you wanted to know how much the ticket was before buying it? "How much is a ticket to Mumbai?" in Hindi is mumbai kaa tikat kiTne kaa hai?
mumbai kaa tikat kiTne kaa hai
mumbai kaa tikat kiTne kaa hai
This sentence is so easy, and you know the structure, thanks to the previous lessons. It starts with mumbai ka tikat, followed by kiTne kaa hai or "how much."
Let’s break down the words and hear the entire sentence once more: mumbai kaa tikat kiTne kaa hai.
mumbai kaa tikat kiTne kaa hai
Let's now imagine that you are not traveling on your own but with someone else, so you need to ask for two tickets or more.
"Two tickets to Mumbai please," in Hindi is mumbai ke liye Do tikaten.
mumbai ke liye Do tikaten
As you can see, it's very easy to understand. In place of ek tikat or "one ticket," you have the number Do or "two" and then the plural noun tikaten or "tickets".
Let’s break down the words and hear the whole sentence: mumbai ke liye Do tikaten.
mumbai ke liye Do tikaten
Lets’ break down the words and hear the whole sentence again: mumbai ke liye Do tikaten.
mumbai ke liye Do tikaten
