John: This is Must-Know Hindi Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 16. In this lesson, you'll learn expressions that involve food and dependence.
John: These expressions make use of some or the other item of food. But they are also commonly used to refer to someone who is dependent on another.

John: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:

John: Shakti, what's our first expression?
Shakti: नमक खाना
John: literally meaning "eat salt." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "to have eaten someone's food, to have been dependent on someone for food and living."

John: Use this slang expression when you want to indicate that a person has been taken care of by someone else. Please note that this is not about raising an adopted child.
