A: Top 25 Hindi Questions You Need to Know - Lesson 21: Are you hungry? in Hindi (In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Hindi learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.)
In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question ""Are you hungry?"" In Hindi this is
B: क्या तुम भूखे हो?
The first word in the question is
B: क्या
A: ""meaning what "" in English.
B: (Slow, by syllable) क्या
A: Listen again and repeat.
B: क्या
{Pause}
A: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is
B: तुम
A: meaning you (informal).
B: (Slow, by syllable) तुम
A: Now repeat.
B: तुम
{Pause}
Listen to the the first 2 words of the question and repeat.
B: क्या तुम
{pause}
And after that
B: भूखे
A: meaning hungry.
B: (Slow, by syllable) भूखे
A: Now repeat.
B: भूखे
{Pause}
Listen to the the first 3 words of the question and repeat.
B: क्या तुम भूखे
{pause}
And after that
B: हो
A: meaning are.
B: (Slow, by syllable) हो
A: Now repeat.
B: हो

Listen to the entire question and repeat.
B: क्या तुम भूखे हो

A: (You will hear this common question again and again throughout your studies.) Master the following pattern and responses to the question Are you hungry??
B: हाँ, मै थोड़ा भूखा हूँ
A: ""Yes, I'm a little hungry.. Again, slowly. Repeat the phrase.
B: (Slow) हाँ, मै थोड़ा भूखा हूँ

To say ""no"", in a simple way, just say:
B: नहीं, मै भूखा नहीं हूँ
A: Which is like saying No, I am not hungry in English. Let's hear it slowly.
B: (Slowly) नहीं, मै भूखा नहीं हूँ
A: And one more time at normal speed:
B: नहीं, मै भूखा नहीं हूँ
A: Let's break it down from the beginning. The first word:
B: हाँ
A: meaning yes.
B: (Slow, by syllable) हाँ
A: Now repeat
B: हाँ
{Pause}
A: And next
B: मै
meaning I .
B: (Slow, by syllable) मै
A:Now repeat.
B: मै
{Pause}
A: And next
B: थोड़ा
meaning little.
B: (Slow, by syllable) थोड़ा
A:Now repeat.

B: भूखा
meaning hungry.

A: To use a different phrase, replace a little with no .
B: नहीं

B: (slow) नहीं (regular) नहीं
A: Listen to the phrase again, this time with no
B: नहीं, मै भूखा नहीं हूँ
A: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace a little. Say Yes, I'm no hungry.

B: नहीं, मै भूखा नहीं हूँ
A: To expand on the pattern, replace no with very.
B: बहुत
A: very
B: (slow) बहुत (regular) बहुत
A: Listen to the phrase again, this time with very
B: हाँ, मै बहुत भूखा हूँ
A: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace the {lang} for no . Say Yes, I'm very hungry.

B: हाँ, मै बहुत भूखा हूँ
Now it's time for a quiz. Imagine you are visiting India and a someone asks you if you're hungry. You want to answer Yes, I'm a little hungry.. Respond to the question.
B: क्या तुम भूखे हो? (five seconds) हाँ, मै थोड़ा भूखा हूँ
A: Now you want to say No, I am not hungry. Respond to the question.
B: क्या तुम भूखे हो? (five seconds) नहीं, मै भूखा नहीं हूँ
A: You want to say Yes, I'm very hungry.. . Answer the speaker's question.
B: क्या तुम भूखे हो? (five seconds) हाँ, मै बहुत भूखा हूँ
A: You want to ask someone if they are hungry. Ask the question
(5 seconds)
B: क्या तुम भूखे हो?
{pause}
A: Now it's time to answer the question with actual information about yourself.
B: क्या तुम भूखे हो?
{pause}

But it is somehow CORRECT because what if the Mother or Sister is asking a guy about having a meal? So please think like that situation in this audio. Tum is Informal so for elders in the case of husband and father we use AAP not TUM.Keep learning Hindi. cheers!! :thumbsup:
