Cultural Insight |
Becky: Now it's time for a quick cultural insight. |
Shakti: The Hindi language offers a lot of variation for making refusals, so rather than having standard sayings or phrases when you are turning something down, you can state it as delicately, as nicely, and as charmingly as you want to, to avoid hurting someone's sentiments. People are also less formal about accepting invitations in India, so if you offer a treat or give out invitations, you should expect people to accept easily. |

Hi Kent,
Thanks for posting!
Your sentence is very good, but something is missing :) Try this:
मैं आपका बहुत बहुत धन्यवाद करता/करती हूँ। (main aapakaa bahuT bahuT DHaNyavaaD karaTaa/karaTii huun.)
Besides, do add the comma here: केंट, अमेरिकन
Otherwise, it seems like your name is "Kent American" :)
All the best!

I have a request, i have noted on the examples above you usually use the male form. For me as a beginner, it is not easy to know automatically when to use the famale version.
Example: Main nahi aa saktha/ aa sakthi
Can you adjust your lessons with both versions? That would be very helpful, thank you.
Hi Jamie,
Excellent!
Keep learning and all the best!
