John: This is Must-Know Hindi Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 5. In this lesson, you'll learn expressions related to animals — part 2.
John: Most of us love animals. This is probably why animals and animal behaviors are so often used to express certain characteristics or opinions. Check these expressions to find out how you can use them in your day to day life.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
John: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Shakti: झूठ बोले कौआ काटे
Shakti: मगरमच्छ के आंसू
Shakti: घोड़ी चढ़ना
Shakti: घोड़े बेचकर सोना
John: Shakti, what's our first expression?
Shakti: झूठ बोले कौआ काटे
John: literally meaning "tell a lie and the crow will bite you." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "liar."
Shakti: [SLOW] झूठ बोले कौआ काटे [NORMAL] झूठ बोले कौआ काटे

Shakti: मगरमच्छ के आंसू
John: literally meaning "crocodile tears." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "insincere tears."
Shakti: [SLOW] मगरमच्छ के आंसू [NORMAL] मगरमच्छ के आंसू

John: Use this slang expression when you know that the tears in the eyes of the other person are a lie. It is the same as the English "crocodile tears".

John: literally meaning "riding the mare." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "getting married."
Shakti: [SLOW] घोड़ी चढ़ना [NORMAL] घोड़ी चढ़ना

John: Use this slang expression when you want to indicate that a male is getting married. Riding a mare is considered an indication that the groom is healthy, responsible, and capable enough to handle a marriage. It is considered to be auspicious for the groom to ride a mare and reach the bride's house or the place where the wedding is supposed to take place.

John: literally meaning "to sleep after selling one's horses." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "to have a sound and carefree sleep."

John: Use this slang expression when you want to refer to someone who is fast asleep. It is used to refer to someone who is in a deep sleep, or enjoying a deep sleep.
